About Me
Welcome to my website! My name is David McGregor, and I would like to share a brief overview of my life with you. While this page will provide a glimpse into my journey, you can find more in-depth information on other pages. So, let’s dive in!
Early Years and Education
I was born in the charming town of Southport in 1941. Growing up, I had the joy of having two younger brothers. My school life was rather unremarkable, but it laid the foundation for the adventures that awaited me.
A Life of Service
In 1964, I embarked on a new chapter of my life when I got married in the beautiful Southport Town Hall. Before that, I had held various jobs in Southport, gaining valuable experiences along the way. However, my true calling came in 1966 when I joined the Royal Air Force. For the next 12 years, I proudly served in the Royal Air Force, dedicating myself to the noble cause of protecting our nation. It was a time of immense growth and learning, shaping me into the person I am today.
A Journey of Knowledge
After my engagement in the Royal Air Force ended in 1978, I decided to pursue my passion for electronics. I enrolled in a TOPS Electronics Technician course in Aintree, which paved the way for a rewarding career. With my newfound knowledge, I had the privilege of running the Advanced Electronics and Computer-Aided Design Laboratories at Kingston University. To further expand my expertise, I pursued Engineering (Electronics) at Kingston Upon Thames College while working at the university.
Contributing to Society
In addition to my professional endeavors, I have always been passionate about giving back to the community. For over 10 years, I served as the I.T. manager for the Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People in Leatherhead. Furthermore, I am actively involved in volunteering with various charities, particularly those dedicated to supporting veterans. Being able to make a positive impact on the lives of others brings me immense joy and fulfillment.
A World of Hobbies
When I’m not immersed in my professional or charitable pursuits, I indulge in my love for technology. As a self-proclaimed computer Geek, I enjoy exploring the world of computer gaming. Whether it’s Real Time Strategy (RTS) or First Person Shooters (FPS), I find great pleasure in the immersive experiences they offer. One of my all-time favorite game series is Command and Conquer, along with its thrilling spin-off, Red Alert. These games have provided countless hours of excitement and strategic thinking.
An Avid Reader and Science Fiction Enthusiast
Another passion that has accompanied me throughout my life is reading. Science fiction has always captivated my imagination, and I devour between 150 to 220 books each year. Exploring the vast realms of the unknown through literature brings me endless inspiration and entertainment. With a library filled with captivating science fiction novels, I am constantly transported to new worlds and introduced to fascinating characters.
