An Information Technology Manager with over 22 years of proven experience with a drive to get things done:
– Managing various computer systems, having experience with Netware 3.11 to 5, Windows 3, to XP. Windows NT to 2003 Server, UNIX, RS6000.
– Assessing and improving users’ confidence and abilities requires good interpersonal and communication skills.
– Three years experience of teaching computer literacy and information technology to adults new to computers.
– Producing IT strategy reports for the board, user policies (network, email & Internet) and disaster recovery plans.

ACHIEVEMENTS
IT Manager Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation and Training College 1996 to October 2006 )
– Created an IT Department and all its procedures.
– Standardised Hardware and Software.
– Introduced imaging techniques which dramatically reduced workload
– Reduced software costs by more than 50% by negotiating a select agreement with Microsoft and others.
– Set up an IT Support Section with an IT Support Manager.
– Worked within tight budgetary and time constraints.
– Responsible for 400 computers at 8 different units.
– Produced all IT Strategy and disaster recovery plans.
– Produced a policy for users accessing Foundation computers, the Internet and using email etc.
– Organised the QEFD Internet site and handed the day-to-day operation to Marketing.
– Moved all network users to Windows XP.
– Set up Internet access, email (external and internal) and calendaring for all users using Exchange.
– Project managed new telephone systems on 3 sites
– Set up a help desk system.
– Negotiated with Eurodata Systems and Microsoft to be one of 12 UK companies to be accepted to take part in Microsoft’s Rapid Adoption program for Windows 2003 server.

Network Contractor Novus Systems Guildford (7 Months) 1996
– Took over from the Network Manager on his promotion, then handed over to his successor 3 months later.
– Revamped and reduced the operating procedures of the Group to reflect the new managers ideas.
– Set up a help desk using the Access database for all user requests to Technical Services and allocated the work to the appropriate expert.
– Dramatically decreased the response time to users of both first and second line support and reduced the paperwork involved.
I.T. Contractor London Industrial Plc (6 Months) 1995
– Stabilised and rationalised the company networks.
– Expanded the Novell network, used by the Accounts database to cover all departments.
– Set up network procedures and introduced staff to a network.
– Introduced Microsoft Office to replace Supercalc and Q & A.

– Project management and administration of the 11 server WAN linked by CISCO routers.
– Building and re-building Compaq Proliant file servers.
– Set up the backup systems using Arcserve.

– Introduced computers to many non-computer literate staff.

INTERESTS
My main interest is computing and I have my own small network at home including an Xbox One and a Wii. I also enjoy general science and reading science fiction, computer games and using the Internet.
Wrote the constitution (needed to obtain charitable status) in 1984 for the 2000 Club (a multi disabled Sports and Social charity in Hounslow) and was its secretary for the first three years.
I was the Chairman of my local Residents Association in London.
I was a DJ and presenter on Radio Gan (The radio station at RAF Gan in the Maldives) during my 9-month tour there in 1971.
I spent 5 years as a committee member (Public Relations Officer) and broadcaster with the Devizes Hospitals Broadcasting Service (covering the 5 hospitals in Devises).
Was an executive member and (Press Officer) of the Wiltshire Social Democratic Party and Chairman of the Trowbridge and Westbury Social Democratic Party.
I was a member of the Charity Consortium Information Technology Directors Group (CCitDG).
I was a member of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) Computer Working Party.

I have 2 German shepherd dogs.

I am the Sefton Council for Voluntary Service Board Champion for the WW1 Commemorations.
I was the Secretary of the Veterans Fund.
I was the Chairman of the Veterans Fund, Fundraising and Events committee (organising Southport Carnival, Armed Forces Day etc.).
I was the Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of the Southport Branch of the Royal British Legion.
I am the Information Technology Manager for the Merseyside Branch of SSAFA.
I am a committee member of the Sefton Armed Forces Community Covenant Partnership
I am the Chairman of the Southport Armed Forces Day Committee.
I am the Chairman and Trustee of the Formby Branch of the Royal Air Force Association.
Was awarded Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) in July 2008.
Obtained a BCS level 1 Certificate for IT users (ECDL Part 1) in March 2009.
